| Abstract | ||
| ABSTRACT Background: Vitiligo is a disorder that causes the presence of pale patchy areas of depigmented skin on the face, hands and wrists; these patches are initially small, but often grow and change in shape. The main manifestation of vitiligo is skin depigmentation, which significantly influences appearance and brings enormous psychological stress for patients. Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of CXCL10 and CXCL12 in the pathogenesis of vitiligo and to detect its relation to disease activity. Subjects and methods: This Case control study included fourty patients of clinically diagnosed vitiligo. Twenty controls who are matched with patients in age and sex. Patients attending to Dermatology, Venereology and Andrology outpatient clinics in Zagazig university hospitals during the period from May to October 2018 after approval of IRB No (4545/ 4-4-2018). Results: Statistically significantly high level of CXCL10and CXCL12 were found in vitiligo group as compared with control group. Serum level of CXCL10 and CXCL12 correlated with the disease activity. Conclusion: The study shows that CXCL10 and CXCL12 may play a significant roles in the pathogenesis of vitiligo. | ||
