| Lemon grass is a tiny herbaceous plant in the Poaceae family known as Cymbopogon citratus. It is traditionally used to treat cancer, fever, sore throats, cough, laryngitis, bronchitis, body aches, headaches, and digestive problems, etc. The cytotoxic activity of Cymbopogon citratus Extracts Three types of human cancer cell lines were tested: Lung Carcinoma (A549), Breast Cancer (MCF-7) and Hepatocellular Carcinoma (Hep G2) are examined in this study. The plant material was chemically fractionated with ethanol 80 percent, ethyl acetate, and hexane, then tested for bioactivity. The maximum anticancer activity was found in ethyl acetate extract against A549, HepG2 , and MCF-7 human cancer cells with cell viability percentage (64.09±1.11 % , 41.22± 0.34% , and 66.24± 1.50%, respectively) with IC50 values (147, 65, and 155µg/ml, respectively). The findings demonstrate that the ethyl acetate fraction of Cymbopogon citratus is a rich source of phenolics and other chemicals that can help prevent cancer growth. | ||
