| في هذا الكتاب تفحصت ديان رافيتش - المساعدة السابقة لوزير التعليم والقائدة في حملة إنشاء منهج وطني - حياتها المهنية في إصلاح التعليم وتنصلت من المواقف التي دافعت عنها بقوة في السابق بالاعتماد على أكثر من أربعين عامًا من البحث والخبرة. وانتقدت الأفكار الأكثر شيوعًا اليوم لإعادة هيكلة المدارس، بما في ذلك الخصخصة، والمعيار الأساسي المشترك، والاختبار القياسي، واستبدال المعلمين بالتكنولوجيا، والمدارس المستقلة. إلى جانب أنها وضحت بشكل قاطع سبب عدم كون نموذج الأعمال طريقة مناسبة لتحسين المدارس باستخدام أمثلة من مدن كبرى. وناقشت أن الاعتماد على الاختبارات كوسيلة لتقييم أداء الطلاب أمرًا ليس عادلًا وهو ما يعد تناقضًا لمواقف سابقة للمؤلفة لأنها كانت ذات يوم داعمة للاختيار والاختبار التعليمي، لكنها عكست موقفها لاحقًا. هذا الكتاب ليس مجرد حديث طويل عن الخطأ في نظام التعليم في أمريكا، إنه أيضًا دليل للتحسين ويسرد العديد من التغييرات التي من شأنها أن تساعد في جعل نظام التعليم في أمريكا نموذجًا لبقية العالم، يحتاج النظام التعليمي في أمريكا إلى إصلاح ونظام "الموت والحياة للمدرسة الأمريكية العظيمة" طريقة رائعة لمعرفة ما هو معطل وكيفية إصلاحه. بشكل عام يدعو الكتاب للاطلاع على مثال يدعو للتقدير لمؤلفة تنقد آراءها السابقة وبشجاعة وبأسلوب علمي، وهذه ممارسة يمكن أن يستفيد منها القارئ في مراجعة أفكاره الخاصة وإعادة تقييمها، إضافة إلى أن لغة الكتاب واضحة ومفهومة حتى لغير المختصين في التعليم. كما أنه يوفر رؤية ناقدة لحلول تعليمية مثل الخصخصة والتي يتم تداولها في المملكة العربية السعودية، وبالتالي يمكن الاستفادة من تجربة الولايات المتحدة في هذا المجال. In this book, Diane Ravitch, the former Assistant Secretary of Education and the leader of creation of a national curriculum campaign, examined her career in education reform and disavows positions that she once vigorously advocated drawing on more than forty years of research and experience. She criticized today's most popular ideas for school restructuring, including privatization, the Common Core Standard, standardized testing, the replacement of teachers with technology, and charter schools. Besides, the author emphatically explained why a business model is not an appropriate way to improve schools using examples from major cities. She discussed that reliance on tests as a means of evaluating student performance is unfair, in contrary to her earlier opinions and attitudes. She was once supportive of educational testing, but Ravitch later reversed her position. This book is not just a long talk about what is wrong with America's education system, but also and improvement guide. It lists many of the changes that will help make America's education system a model for the rest of the world. The American education system needs to reform and "The Death and Life of the Great American School" System is a great way to find out what is broken and how to fix it. In general, the book invites us to see an example that calls for appreciation for the author who criticized her previous opinions with courage and in a scientific manner; and readers can benefit from this practice by reviewing and re-evaluating their ideas. In addition, the language of the book is clear and understandable even for non-specialists in education, it also provides a critical view of educational solutions such as privatization, which is being adapted in Saudi Arabia, and thus can benefit from the US experience in this field. | ||
