| Abstract | ||
| The existing work proposed to explain alterations in amylases activity and a few metabolic actions in salt-treated Oryza sativa seedlings by salt irrigation (100 and 200 mM), and assess the role of presoaking of seeds by polyamine putrescine (1.0 and 4.0 mM), to alleviate these changes. Application of putrescine at a high level significantly increased the elongation of shoot and root, fresh and dry weights at all NaCl levels of 25-day old Oryza sativa seedling. Also, the application of a high concentration of putrescine with different levels of NaCl enhanced shoot and root total carbohydrate and protein accumulation which was more effective than the lower dose of putrescine. Application of a high dose of putrescine with a low NaCl level caused slight enhancement of α- and β-amylase activities in Oryza sativa seeds after 2 days. Thus, the application of putrescine, especially at a high dose, is a remarkable method for ameliorating the toxic effect of salt stress on Oryza sativa seedlings. | ||
