| Abstract | ||
| This paper tries to investigate if there is a difference in the memory recall of emotional words between Arabic-English bilinguals. The methodology involves an experiment of free-recall responses to emotional word stimuli by 68 Egyptian Arabic-English bilinguals where the Arabic language is their native language (L1) and English language is their second language (L2). The participants divided into early English learners who acquired L2 at year 6, and late English learners who acquired L2 at year 12. A design of 2 x 2 x 3 three-way mixed ANOVA was administered with three independent variables; the group of L2 language acquisition (i.e., early, and late), the language (i.e., Arabic, English), and the emotionality of words (i.e., positive, negative, and neutral). The result showed no significant difference between late and early L2 learners in memory recall. However, there was significant main effect of language as well as main effect of emotionality on memory recall. Furthermore, the results showed significant interaction between emotionality and whether subjects acquired L2 early or late, as well as the result showed significant interaction between language and emotionality. Finally, the results showed significant interaction between the language, emotionality, and whether the subjects acquired L2 early or late. تحاول الورقة البحثية الحالية الکشف عما إن کان هناک فرق بين متحدث ثنائي اللغة (العربية – الإنجليزية) في تذکر الکلمات الانفعالية. تضمن منهج الدراسة إجراء تجربة هدفت إلى دراسة استجابات التذکر الحر للکلمات الانفعالية عند ٦٨ مشارک مصري ممن يتحدثون اللغة العربية کلغة أولى واللغة الإنجليزية کلغة ثانية. تم تقسيم المشارکين في التجربة إلى مجموعة ممن اکتسبوا اللغة الإنجليزية کلغة ثانية في سن مبکر (٦ سنوات)، ومجموعة ممن اکتسبوا اللغة الإنجليزية کلغة ثانية في سن متأخر (١٢ سنة). تم تحليل البيانات باستخدام تصميم تحليل التباين الثلاثي بطريقة 2X2X3 three-way mixed ANOVA بواقع ثلاثة عوامل مستقلة وهم: متغير العمر الذي تم اکتساب اللغة الإنجليزية فيه کلغة ثانية (مجموعة اکتسبت اللغة الثانية في سن مبکر، مجموعة اکتسبت اللغة الثانية في سن متأخر)، اللغة التي عرضت بها الکلمات (العربية، الإنجليزية)، وثلاثة قوائم من الکلمات التي تعکس ثلاث انفعالات مختلفة (کلمات تعکس الانفعالات الإيجابية، کلمات تعکس الانفعالات السلبية، وکلمات تعکس الانفعالات المحايدة). أظهرت النتائج عدم وجود فروق ذات دلالة في التذکر بين مجموعة من اکتسبوا اللغة الثانية في عمر مبکر وبين من اکتسبوها في عمر متأخر، ولکن أوضحت النتائج تأثير دال للغة التي عرضت بها الکلمات، کما أوضحت النتائج أيضا تأثير دال للکلمات التي عکست الانفعالات المختلفة. کما أظهرت النتائج تفاعل دال بين اللغة التي عرضت بها الکلمات وبين الکلمات التي عکست الانفعالات المختلفة. وأخيراً، أوضحت النتائج تفاعل دال بين العوامل المستقلة محل الدراسة: اللغة، الکلمات الانفعالية، وما إذا کان الشخص اکتسب اللغة الثانية في سن مبکر أم متأخر. | ||
