| Abstract | ||
| Abstract Introduction: Spermatogenesis process requires continuous supply of nutrients like carbohydrates, amino acids, vitamins, and others for the normal process to progress to give normal sperms. Methionine and choline are two important amino acids which play an important role in transport of energy substrates, redox balance, and in DNA methylation. Adiponectin is protein which has anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic function. Animal and methods: Twenty-five mice were used, they were fed with Methionine and choline deficient diet. They were divided into three groups: Control group, group M1 which were fed with MCDD for three weeks, group M2 they were fed with MCDD for three weeks and in the last week they received also daily injections of adiponectin for one week. Results: The present study revealed MCDD caused a significant reduction in body weight and increase in the incidence of apoptosis where P value was 0.001; caspase-3 expression was higher than that of Bcl2 in group M1. Adiponectin therapy in the last week show the potential to restore body weight, reduce apoptotic rate, and the expression of Bcl2 was higher than that of caspase-3. Conclusions: MCDD reduced body weight significantly because methionine and choline are very important amino acids for the transport of energy substrates. Also, MCDD was found to increase the rate of apoptosis of spermatogenic cells; Adiponectin therapy to mice fed with MCDD can reduce the apoptotic rate and can restore spermatogenesis.
