| Abstract | ||
| Alhagi maurorum a plant belonging to family Fabaceae was evaluated for the antimicrobial and antifungal activities against an array of pathogens. The powdered plant was extracted with ethanol, then fractionated into 8 fractions with different polarities. The crude extract and its different fractions was tested against a number of fungi, gram positive and gram-negative bacteria. The results revealed that the crude extract and fractions 100% Hexane, 25% DCM/Hexane, 50% DCM/Hexane showed a significant and promising activity towards Proteus vulgaris with inhibition zones equal 15,15,16 and 17 mm. respectively. Additionally, the 75% DCM/Hexane, 100% DCM and 25% DCM/MeOH fractions have antimicrobial activity towards Proteus vulgaris with inhibition zones equal 17,17 and 15 mm respectively and also have antifungal activity towards against the Candida albicans with inhibition zones equal 11,14 and 12 mm respectively. Therefore, A.maurorum crude extract and its different fractions could be considered as a promising source for effective antimicrobial antifungal agent. | ||
