| Abstract | ||
| The investigation aims to investigate the effect of nitrogen fertilization under saline condition on hydrophysical properties and some chemical properties for soil. A pot experiment was carried out in the green house of the Soil and Water Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Benha University, Egypt, during the winter season of 2022, using different concentrations of seawater and fertilization at different rates of nitrogen fertilizer. The irrigation water was obtained from the Mediterranean, Alexandria, Egypt. Then, its salinity was reduced by adding different amounts of groundwater until several different salinity concentrations were obtained from the irrigation water (W0= Tab water, W1= 3.2 dS m-1, W2= 4.7 dS m-1 and W3= 6.3 dS m-1). Barley was used as test a plant. The main effect of the water saline shows that soil salinity (ECe), SP %, SAR contents and ESP significantly increased due to irrigation with the studied saline-water as compared with irrigation with the tap water. On the other hand, the nitrogen and potassium contents in the studied soils for irrigation water were significantly decreased due to irrigation with the studied saline-water as compared with irrigation with the tap water. Meanwhile, N-fertilizer treatments improved the hydrophysical properties and some chemical properties for soil where total nitrogen and potassium contents were increased gradually with increasing the amount of N-fertilizer. it could be concluded that irrigating barley plants grown in clay soil with somewhat salty water negatively affected the physical (and chemical properties of the soil, but wasting nitrogen fertilization reduced this effect. | ||
