| Abstract | ||
| The experiment was carried out to assess the utilization of potato chip scraps (PCS) as a substitute of corn in basal diet fed to Japanese quails on; feeding behavior patterns, growth performance and economic efficiency. A total number of 144 unsexed quails chicks aged 14 days were distributed randomly into three dietary treatments, each treatment was further subdivided into four replicates (12 birds each replicate). The treatment diets were; T1: received the basal diet as a control. While, Treatments 2 and 3 had yellow corn of diet replaced with two levels of PCS, 4% or 8%, respectively. The quail chicks were raised with ad libitum feed and water offered. Various parameters, such as body weight, body weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, feeding behavior patterns and economic efficiency were appraised. Our results showed that the birds received (PCS) at 4% or 8% had higher significant (p≤0.05) values of body weight , body weight gain, performance index, economic efficiency and intestine length compared to the control group. Also, blood parameters recorded higher levels of total lipids, cholesterol, triglycerides and HDL than the control group (p≤0.05). While, there were no significant differences between treatments for feed intake. Moreover, the high (p≤0.05) value of LDL was found in the control group compared to other treatments group. In conclusion,diet supplementation with PCS at the levels of 4% or 8% did not have any adverse impact on the bird’s performance, feeding behavior patterns or economic value of Japanese quails throughout the whole growing period. | ||
