| Abstract | ||
| These days, sustainable building materials are becoming increasingly popular due to the increasing interest of people and organizations in preserving the environment. Architects and builders continue to look for ways to improve their practices by creating materials that contribute to the sustainable construction process and are an effective option to reduce their environmental impact. Therefore, specialists resorted to some materials such as recycled wood, clay, and other materials that save energy, reduce waste, and preserve natural resources. The production of sustainable materials also aims to improve people's quality of life while protecting the environment from carbon emissions and saving energy consumption. These materials can be classified into two categories: the first seeks to contribute to nature as biomaterials, and the second seeks to achieve economic efficiency as low-cost, recyclable materials. These two materials were developed to meet the challenges of dealing with environmental issues. This paper seeks to identify sustainable transparent materials and focuses on studying three advanced materials: transparent wood, rock salt crystals, and polycarbonate. The research also seeks to emphasize cooperation between industry and technology in producing sustainable, transparent materials that can be used efficiently in smart architecture. On the other hand, the research aims to identify the characteristics of these sustainable, transparent materials. For the paper to reach its goals, an analytical methodology is conducted on transparent wood and rock salt crystals, as they are vital and sustainable materials, in addition to polycarbonate; as a sustainable recyclable material. The results showed a major industrial shift in the trend towards manufacturing these architectural materials to keep pace with the needs of the times and to be compatible with the needs of smart architecture. The study suggests developing codes and standards to make it easier for architects and specialists to benefit from these sustainable materials and integrate them with smart architecture. | ||
