| Abstract | ||
| By comparing the use of SAFA (Sustainability Assessment of Food and Agricultural Systems) indicators, the current study seeks to evaluate the sustainability of agricultural systems and food production for small farms in the governorate of Ismailia. Using the SAFA methodology, which is divided into hierarchical levels: dimensions, themes, sub-themes, and indicators, we can evaluate the sustainability of small farms in Ismailia. The more broad level of sustainability encompasses four dimensions: good governance, environmental integrity, economic resilience, and social well-being. The results demonstrated that there are occasionally noticeable discrepancies among the levels of sustainability attained by the 380 farms in the subsequent themes: "Investment" and "Vulnerability" have moderate degrees of sustainability, due to there is a partnership with the ministry's agronomists to obtain advantageous approaches for production success, therefore reducing farmers' vulnerability. In terms of the "Local Economy," sustainability levels are good since production is geared toward self-consumption and local sales. The themes of "decent livelihood" and "fair trading practices" have moderate levels since working is not too hard and fair trade concepts are honored. There are limited scores for "Labor Rights" due to the fact that are no true working connections that incorporate family aspects. There were also moderate degrees of "equity" because both men and women participated in the process of production. | ||
