Abstract
Abstract
In recent years, the rapid renaissance in nanotechnology domain has bred a great evolution in medical research outcomes and clinical treatments. One notable example is superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles, or SPIONs. By virtue of their features; superparamagnetism, adjustable size, considerable surface area, biocompatibility, non-toxicity and eco-friendliness, SPIONs become an excellent option for diverse biomedical domains as a diagnostic imaging, therapeutic or theranostic agent. SPIONs have disclosed remarkable efficiencies in the management of obesity and its correlated complications. This review aims to provide an overview on the recent advancements achieved in synthesis, coatings, characterization and theranostic actions of SPIONs, focusing on our recent experimental study concerning the SPIONs’ exceptional potential in the management of obesity and male obesity associated secondary hypogonadism (MOSH) syndrome via modulating expressions of the pivotal genes involved in hypothalamic-pituitary-testicular (HPT) –axis pathway.
