| Background: Acute bacterial pneumonia is a bacterial infection of the lower respiratory tract caused by a bacterial agent. Diagnosis is delicate and depends on clinical, radiological and biological data. The aim of this study was to compare the agreement of the BioFire ® FilmArray ® Pneumonia Panel test with conventional methods used in the microbiological diagnosis of bacterial pneumonia. Methods: This was a retrospective study carried out in the bacteriology department. Samples were collected by conventional bacteriological methods and molecular methods using Biofire® FilmArray © Pneumonia panel. Results: The PN correctly detected all bacterial targets isolated by culture if the bacteria were included in the panel targets, with a positive agreement of 100%. Negative agreement ranged from 60 to 93%, and overall negative agreement was 79.6%. Overall positive and negative concordance for the detection of strains harboring CTX-M, NDM and MecA/MecC/MREJ genes were 100.0% and 94% respectively. Conclusion: PN showed good agreement with culture methods nevertheless an interpretation correlated with culture data and clinico-radiological data would be judicious for a better management of these pathologies. | ||
