| Abstract | ||
| This research investigates the impact of spiral silencer walls on the performance of liquid-liquid jet pumps using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. Jet pumps are hydraulic devices that use a jet of fluid to create a vacuum and draw more fluid into the pump. Jet pumps can be used in many industrial, water supply, and environmental applications including increasing system discharge capacity and achieve mixing process. The study compares the CFD numerical results with analytical model results as well as experimental results available in the literature. The research also examines the effect of using spiral silencer walls at the inlet nozzle and the mixing pipe of the jet pump. From the analysis of the present study, it is found that the use of spiral silencer walls reduces the overall efficiency of the jet pump but increases the delivery pressure at low flow ratios. Also, the CFD simulation tends to overestimate the efficiency of the jet pump when compared to the results of the analytical models and the experimental results. It is concluded that, both CFD numerical simulations as well as the available analytical models of the jet pump are useful prediction tools of the performance analysis and design of jet pumps. Further improvements of both CFD models and analytical models of the jet pump are needed to enhance their accuracy and reliability. | ||
