| Abstract | ||
| Background: Mechanical ventilation is crucial incident in intensive care unit management. Weaning is method of decreasing ventilatory support. This study aimed to predict weaning outcome of MV patients using diaphragmatic excursion dependent shallow breathing index and compare it with traditional shallow breathing index. Methods: The study was prospective observational study that included 58 MV patients randomized into 2 equal groups, Group (I): were assessed using rapid shallow breathing index and Group (II) underwent ultrasonographic assessment for diaphragmatic excursion and assessed using diaphragmatic rapid shallow breathing index.
