| Abstract | ||
| ABSTRACT The current study was conducted to study the preventive and therapeutic effect of milk thistle and moringa leaves powder on rats suffering from carbon tetrachloride- induced hepatotoxicity. Sixty rats were used for experiments, and the rats were divided into two groups, preventive and therapeutic. The rats were fed different proportions of milk thistle and moringa leaves powder (7.5 and 10%). The following analysis was performed: chemical composition, active ingredients, liver function, kidney function, lipid profile, oxidative stress enzymes for liver tissue and histopathological analysis of the liver. The results of the study were as follows: moringa contains a high percentage of total phenols and flavonoids compared with milk thistle contain, while milk thistle contains a higher percentage of antioxidants compared with moringa. Groups 6 and 12 recorded the best results in all tests under study, and a noticeable improvement was noted in liver tissue in the histopathological study. Therefore, the study recommends consuming moringa and including it in the daily regimen to improve liver function | ||
