| Abstract | ||
| Semi-continuous emulsion polymerization was used to produce cross-linked poly (styrene-acrylate) emulsion. Two types of crosslinker diacetone acrylamide (DAAM) or adipic acid dihydrazide (ADH) were used at different concentrations, where DAAM was added with concentrations 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2% while ADH was added with concentrations 0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, and 1% from the total amount of monomer. The solid content, storage stability, viscosity, as well as particle size distribution, and morphology of the prepared latexes were performed. In addition, the Fourier transform infrared, thermal stability, washability, zeta potential, and gloss test of the films prepared from the latexes were studied. The results illustrated the presence of a crosslinker effect on the morphology, particle size, and stability of the prepared latexes. The addition of 1.5 % from DAAM and 0.75 % from ADH showed particle size ranged between 293 and 171 nm, respectively, and zeta potential was -52.9 and -55.1 mV, respectively, while the particle size and zeta potential of the blank were 209 nm and -43.3, respectively. Furthermore, the addition of a crosslinker improves the thermal stability and washability of the prepared cross-linked latexes compared to blank. | ||
