| Abstract | ||
| Introduction External dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) is the preferred solution for lacrimation caused by chronic dacryocystitis, owing to its cost-effectiveness, patient agreement and higher success. Aim of the study Evaluation of the outcomes of external DCR for management of cases of chronic dacryocystitis admitted to Minia University Hospital. Patients and materials This clinical interventional study involved 100 patients diagnosed with dacryocystitis resulting from acquired obstruction of the drainage part of lacrimal system. The patients underwent external dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) at Minia University Hospital between January 2022 and March 2024. Results Diagnosis was chronic dacryocystitis in 64 cases (64.0%), and it’s NLDO in 12 cases (12.0%), and it’s mucocele in 24 cases (24.0%). Mean Surgery duration was (28.26 minute) and standard deviation was 4.10 .Epiphora was present in 6 cases 6 %. Success rate is 94.0% 94 cases. Conclusion External DCR with anastomosis of anterior flaps alone is a straightforward, guaranteed and time-efficient procedure, offering outcomes comparable to those of conventional DCR. | ||
