| Abstract | ||
| This study tries to explore the positive potential effect of the cinnamon aqueous extract on metabolism in male Albino rats. This study assigned ten mature rats divided into two groups, a group received distilled water as the control rat group, and the other group received cinnamon extracts at a dose of 400 mg /kg (20% v/v in distilled water) daily via gavage for three months. Body weight gain, absolute and relative weight for fat masses, liver and kidney, oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), HOMA-IR, total protein (TP), albumin, alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST), thyroid hormones T3 and T4, and lipid profile were assessed. Moreover, antioxidant capacity (TAC), malondialdehyde (MDA), creatinine, urea, uric acid, leptin, resistin and hematological examination were assayed. Cinnamon extract-treated rats showed significant reductions in the weight of fats, OGTT, AST, ALT, TP, T3, MDA, TG, resistin, and leptin as compared to the control group. While significant increase was observed in TAC, and HDL of cinnamon extract-treated rats as compared to the control group. However, there were non-significant differences in body weight, HOMA-IR, insulin, T4, albumin, and TC with slight differences in urea, uric acid, and creatinine were noted. The treatment of cinnamon aqueous extract improved and mitigated the metabolic parameters due to its antioxidant properties. | ||
