| Abstract | ||
| The fishing sector is one of the most hazardous fields worldwide. The prevailing risks may cause the loss of lives of fishing crew members who are exposed to hazards during sailing and fishing, especially cases of man overboard at night work. No previous studies have been conducted that discuss man overboard on Egyptian fishing vessels, and no statistics have been published on the victims that occur on Egyptian fishing vessels, as a result of crew members falling into the sea during their fishing operation. This study aimed to prove the existence of the problem of man overboard on purse seining vessels in Egypt and to explain the causes of the problem, in addition to conducting statistics on the number of cases that died due to falling from fishing vessels. Interviews were conducted with fishing vessel captains, and criteria were set for the questionnaire. The result of the questionnaires was that there are a lot of victims as a result of man overboard for members of the crew of purse seining vessels due to the nature of the work which led to a high rate of deaths and injuries. The paper illustrates a suggested system that alerts individuals in the event of falling into the sea using sound waves and recommends that specialized agencies should increase awareness and consider the proposed rescue system to implement it to avoid the occurrence of man-over incidents and the loss of more lives. | ||
