| Background: Diabetes is an important health condition for the aging population. Diabetic nephropathy represents a main cause of end-stage renal disease in developed countries. Vaspin, a novel adipokine, has been identified as a potential regulator of insulin sensitivity, exhibiting elevated expression in adipose tissue of individuals with obesity and type 2 diabetes. This study aimed to investigate the potential association between plasma vaspin levels, anthropometric parameters, and the presence of microalbuminuria. Methods: This is a case control study that included a total number of 92 subjects divided into four groups,carried out at the Nephrology Outpatient Clinic of internal medicine and clinical pathology departments of Zagazig University Hospitals. Results: Group IV exhibited significantly higher levels of blood urea nitrogen , creatinine, and albumin-to-creatinine ratio compared to other groups. Conversely, albumin, protein, and glomerular filtration rate were significantly lower in Group IV. Group III demonstrated significantly lower Vaspin levels compared to the other groups. Moreover, Group IV showed significantly lower Vaspin levels compared to Groups I and II. There were a statistical significance positive correlation between Vaspin level and weight, BMI (r= 0.869, p= <0.001), WHR, , HOMA IR, and a statistical significance negative correlation between Vaspin level and duration of DM among Group II.(r= -0.510, p= 0.013).and there were a statistical significance positive correlation between Vaspin level and BMI, WHR, SBP, HOMA IR, and GFR(r= 0.892,p= <0.001) and a statistical significance negative correlation between Va spin level and disease duration, ACR(r= -0.600,p= 0.002), Creatinine and BUN among Group IV. | ||
