| Abstract | ||
| Background: Dry eye disease (DED) is a chronic, multifactorial condition marked by decreased tear production, elevated tear film osmolarity, & inflammation of the ocular surface & underlying tissues. Discomfort, pain, burning, a feeling of a foreign body, and changes in vision are some of the symptoms experienced by those who suffer from this condition. Aims and objectives: To assess the effect of cyclosporine 0.05 percent eye drops on the management of mild, moderate, and severe dry eye patients. Patients and Methods: This was cross-sectional research performed at the Ophthalmology Department, Benha University Hospital, for one year (from September 2022 to August 2023) on 85 patients. Results: After two months of therapy, the tear breakup time tests (TBUTs) of the studied eyes significantly increased compared to the baseline, but there wasn’t significant distinction among the first month of therapy and the baseline. The Schirmer tests of the studied eyes showed a significant increase compared to baseline, and the difference between 1 month of treatment and baseline was not statistically significant. There was a significant improvement after two months of therapy compared to one month. The ocular surface disease index (OSDI) of the studied patients ranged from 14 to 55. Conclusion: We observed that cyclosporine 0.05% successfully improved the signs and symptoms of dry eyes. Additionally, we observed an increase in TBUTs and a decrease in the OSDI. | ||
