| Abstract | ||
| Background: The carotid arteries(carotids), which branch off in the neck into the internal & external carotid arteries, are responsible for supplying oxygenated blood to the head & neck. Aim: To compare a double carotid stent to a single layer with respect to the safety & prognosis profile of elective carotid stenosis with elevated grade in both symptomatic & asymptomatic cases. Patients and methods: This research used an open-label, retrospective design. center research that was conducted on 65 patients over a period of 2 years at Al-Hussein Hospital, Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Results: no significant difference in complications, follow-up MRS, or side of stenosis between single and double stent groups p>0.05, but a significant difference in reoclusion p=0.03. However, there was a significant difference in used stent p≤0.001 , with no significant difference between the two groups p>0.05. Conclusion: Both single layer stent and protected stenting with micromesh Casper stent showed good safety and efficacy in the treatment of carotid stenosis with a low incidence of re-occlusion. These preliminary data require confirmation from larger, randomized and prospective studies. | ||
