| Abstract | ||
| Objective: to investigate the therapeutic effect of bone marrow Mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs)on partial and transient hepatic ischemia reperfusion injury in rats at 24hrs and 72hrs following reperfusion.. Design: Randomized controlled experimental study. Animals: A 56 Spraque-dawely male rats weighing 200-250g. Procedures: Rats were divided into 4 groups each group was subdivided into 2 subgroups, eight rats in every subgroup. First group: sham operated group 24hrs and 72hrs.Hepatic IR group 24hrs and 72hrs.IR transplanted (MSCS) group 24hrs and 72hrs. Normal group 8 rats. Results: The IR transplanted MSCS group showed improvement in serum liver enzymes in comparison to Hepatic IR group (P < 0.05). Hepatic IR transplated MSCS after 72hrs of reperfusion group showed more improvement than 24hrs reperfusion group. On the histopathological level there were a great improvements in the Suzuki score in IR transplanted groups more than the IR groups which represented by minimal sinusoidal congestion, vacuolization and necrosis. Conclusion and clinical relevance: The transplantation ofBM-MCSs via portal vein following IRI could improve the inflammation and necrosis in hepatic tissue. The results were promising when the transplsnted cells had an amiable time to exert their effect. So, this study indicates the importance of cell-based therapies especially MSCs in alleviating hepatic inflammation and necrosis during liver surgeries. | ||
