| Background: The impact of band use in one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB) is uncertain. Limited evidence is available on how this approach enhance weight loss. Patients and methods: Prospective cohort study was conducted to compare effectiveness of B_OAGB and OAGB regarding weight loss and resolution of Obesity related medical conditions. Patients were followed from December 2020 to June 2024. Eighty-seven patients were enrolled. 43 patients for B_OAGB and 44 patients for OAGB were analyzed, with a 3-year follow-up at the Ain Shams University Bariatric surgery department. Results: The two groups’ baseline characteristics were similar. There was a significant difference between both groups in operative time, B_OAGB took longer time (80.09 ± 10.18) minutes compared to OAGB (70.09 ± 10.52) minutes, p value ≤ 0.001. Between the two groups, there was no statistically significant difference in morbidity, death, or the resolution of Obesity related medical conditions. There was a significant difference in BMI between B_OAGB with and OAGB at 12, 24, and 36 months, B_OAGB showed lower BMI, p values were 0.001, 0.001 and ≤0.001 respectively. Conclusion: Patients who received B_OAGB surgery lost more weight three years after surgery than those who did not have band. These findings imply that B_OAGB with a silicon ring was successful in sustaining weight loss and resolution of comorbidities over short to medium period with accepted rate of complications. | ||
